The photo I posted for this blog entry is what most of us may relate to when we think of a playground. However, I think there are many different types of playgrounds in our lives, and as we age our playgrounds change.
I don't think playgrounds like the photo existed when I was a young child or at least I don't remember visiting any as elaborate and creative. Growing up in Fayetteville, GA, I have many fun memories of visiting the playground at Jack Day Park. As development occurred in the growing city, the park was replaced with a parking lot. Even though I was getting older and outgrowing the traditional playground, I still had a playground I visited quite frequently. The soccer field became my playground, and quite a tough one! Playing soccer was my favorite sport and I often spent 2-3 days a week at the field in my teenage years. In my college years, I would train daily on a soccer field. I continued to play after college for many years until I decided to transition to a new playground. My garden is my current playground, and I have always enjoyed playing in the dirt!
Hope you can reflect and think of the playgrounds in your life. What was your toughest playground?
