In listening to the book, I thought about my own life and the opportunities I have been given. I started playing soccer at the age of 7 and have continued to play in my adult life. Soccer was a large part of my life as a child and young adult, and I was fortunate to live in a county where we had a strong soccer program and excellent coaching. I played on the first recreational girls soccer team in the county, then the first club girls soccer team in the county. Having played for the Lighting Soccer Club in my local community for over 10 years, I was constantly challenged and my skill level continued to improve due to quality coaching and talented teammates. During the last four years of my club experience, our team had won 4 State Championships, 1 Regional Championship, and placed 3rd in Nationals. Hard Work? Absolutely! This type of success happens when you have a strong soccer community and an opportunity to work hard. Beyond learning the game of soccer, I took away many lessons that went far beyond the white lines of the field. Those lessons, along with the friendships I developed, have helped shape who I am today.
This is one of many examples from my life. Take time to reflect, and I am sure you will find numerous examples of how others made an impact in your life and the opportunities you were given that played a significant role in your life.
